Map Ambassadors · Members · Founders

Help someone get on the map. We pay you for it.

A Map Ambassador is a member who helps people they know join map.ca. A neighbour with a shop. A friend who just started a trade. Someone who is not sure what the map is for. You help them join and get set up. When their membership is verified, we e-transfer you $5 or $50.

$5

when someone you helped joins for $21, a year of membership.

$50

when someone you helped joins for $210, a lifetime membership.

This is not a sales job, and it is not a job

Nobody is chasing a number. Ambassador payments stop at $500 in a calendar year, which keeps this a thank-you between members and keeps map.ca out of being anyone's employer. Reach the cap and you have shown you can build something. Apply for a Business Boost and we help you start your own.

An ambassador explains the map plainly, sets fair expectations, and stays in touch after someone joins. That is why there is a short intake, a short training, and a short test before you are listed. Most people finish all three in under an hour.

  1. A few questions, about 5 minutes. Where you are, who you would help first, and what you hope the map does for your community.
  2. Short training, about 20 minutes. Five short pages: what the map is, what a membership includes, what to promise and what not to. Open to everyone, any time.
  3. Short test, 8 questions, open book. Pass and your @name is live as an ambassador the same day.
You need a verified membership first. Ambassadors are members. If you have not joined yet, become a Founding Member, then come back. The training is open now; the sign-in for the questions and the test is being wired and opens in your member portal.

How the referral works

There are no links, no codes and no cookies. When the person you helped reaches Make Your Pledge, they type your @name at "Did a Map Ambassador help you?" That is the whole referral. Once their membership is verified, the e-transfer goes to the bank email on your membership. Turn on Autodeposit and it lands without a question.

After every join, you answer four short questions about what the new member was hoping for, and they get a short questionnaire by email. Those answers go straight into what gets built next.

The Gather track and the charter

Some ambassador work goes beyond helping people join: documenting the infrastructure and civic assets a community needs. That work is bound by a public-benefit and privacy charter, enforced in code on every capture. Places, never people.
