Page 4 of 5: Privacy and names
Ambassadors see more of a new member's process than most people do. Here is where the line sits.
Say this
- Usernames come before full names. A member's @name is what appears on the map; their full name stays private unless they choose to share it.
- Someone who wants to stay private can check "Please keep my information private" on Claim Your Name. They show up as @newmember.
- Location is shown at the municipality level only, never a street address.
- The bank email on a membership is used only to match the e-transfer and to sign in. That's it.
Do not do this
- Never ask someone for their banking details. map.ca never asks for them either.
- Never fill in Make Your Pledge for someone else, even if they ask you to. The pledge and the transfer both have to come from the new member's own bank.
- Never share someone's full name or bank email with anyone, including on the map.
The line to remember: "Your full name stays private unless you choose to share it, and I never touch your banking details. That part is between you and your bank."
You can come back to any page later. The test is open book.
